Emergency & Safety

Paris-Nordkapp is unsupported, not unsafe. The tracker, the insurance, the recce team and the way we communicate: what is in place, and what you must do.

Your tracking and safety device

Mandatory on every kilometre

Issued at the administrative checks, rental included in the entry fee. It records your route for validation and lets us know where you are. Keep it mounted and charged: without it there is no validation.

€150 deposit, cash only

Paid in cash when you collect the device and returned in cash when you hand it back at the final Gate. A faulty device is replaced at the Gates: check the notices on Sportity.

Numbers on your wristband

The emergency and operational numbers are given to participants at the checks and printed on the wristband. They are not published on this site.

In case of accident or breakdown

What is in place and what to do. The exact procedure is explained at the first briefing.

  1. 01

    Inform the organization immediately

Call the number on your wristband and say where you are and what you need. Coordinates from your device help.

  2. 02

    Medical assistance is covered

Medical assistance in case of accident is provided through the insurance contracted by the organization and included in the entry fee. Insurance details are sent to entrants.

  3. 03

    Motorcycle recovery is yours

Recovery and repairs are the rider’s responsibility: that is why a roadside assistance extension valid in all countries is required. Local workshops and private help are allowed, but rejoin the route exactly where you left it.

  4. 04

    Riders help riders

Camaraderie and the “Dakar spirit” are part of the Paris-Nordkapp ethos. A rider stopped on the trail is everybody’s business: stop, ask, lend a tool.

Deviations and official notices

Sportity is our way of communicating with you, the only one. Advanced teams ride ahead of the participants to check the route; closures, fords too deep, deviations and changes to the programme are published there, with the coordinates or the RoadBook notes to leave and rejoin the route.

Checking a notification while riding is not natural, we know. But if you come across something beyond the average difficulty, a pool of mud, a ford, anything at all: let the doubt kick in and check your notifications. Official emergency route instructions take precedence over previous navigation files, and reporting an obstacle you find is part of the deal.

Deviations and official notices

Speed, road rules and respect

The highway code applies on every kilometre. Villages at 30 or 50 km/h, speed cameras, residents, other motorcyclists: the tracker lets us know who is speeding and where, and the Regulations foresee exclusion from the event for anyone who breaks traffic rules or behaves dangerously.

Safety Waypoints must be strictly respected. Anyone littering or damaging the environment is excluded. Absolute respect for the communities and the territories crossed is required: you are a guest, in Lapland more than anywhere.

Withdrawal, limits and the way home

On the road

I am too far behind schedule

Do not push, do not exceed your limits, do not put yourself in unsafe conditions. Take the fastest route to reach the next Gate in time: the Regulations allow it and there is nothing wrong with it. Your Finisher level may change, but you will be at the Gate, safe, with your bike and your adventure still alive.

I want to skip part of a hard off-road section

Heavy rain can make a sector harder than when the recce team rode it. If you feel you cannot handle it safely, skip part or all of the off-road and continue on tarmac, rejoining the track further on. It costs you route percentage, never your safety.

Withdrawal

I withdraw from the event

Inform the organization by phone or email, and agree how to return the tracking device. Refund conditions are in the Regulations.

After the finish

How do I get the bike home?

Ride it back along the Norwegian coast, or use the optional transport service from Alta, about 240 km from Nordkapp, offered by independent tour operators. Timetables and loading points are communicated during the event.
